The driveway to Mellington Hall becomes memory lane

This fantastic old photograph was given to us just this week. Its shows the Lodge at the bottom of Mellington Hall driveway – once the main entrance to the magnificent Hall. The date is unknown but keen observers note the whitewash blobs in the windows and rubble in front so it was probably taken during construction or on completion around 1876. In that same year, Queen Victoria was made Empress of India and Bass Brewery’s famous red triangle became the UK’s first registered trade mark symbol!
