It means so much to the team here at Mellington when guests take the time and trouble to review their stay. When we’ve got things wrong the feedback is invaluable because it means we can work to put things right. When it’s a rave review it puts a spring in our step and makes us want to do even better. So, we were delighted to see this posted on booking.com
Superb, a smart historic hotel with a real heart and great food. We knew the general area, but we were a bit nervous about bringing our 1 year old corgi with us on his first hotel stay. Dawn was so helpful and reassuring on both phone and email we kept our nerve, she also organised a private room for our group of 7 to eat in, each evening and this meant we could keep Castro with us and this worked a charm. The food was excellent, with good ingredients and very sensibly priced for such a smart place. All the staff were helpful and friendly and Dawn was backed up by a supportive owner and his wife when they were busy- and they were very busy with an Easter egg hunt etc- but somehow they made it run smoothly. The rooms were lovely and comfortable, warm and very clean so we all felt pampered. The log fires and woodburner in the lounges were ablaze over a snowy Easter. The extensive grounds with huge ponds and woods were beautiful and mist over the ponds while the swans patrolled memorable. Genuine welcome and warmth can be hard to find in a hotel, but Dawn and her team were superb.
Some might not like the caravan site- static caravans and tourers not far from the hotel. For us they made this make more sense- the weather was terrible over Easter and the caravanners joined the throng in the bar which made the atmosphere better- some big old buildings can feel like a museum, this is a welcoming and alive place with a mixed economy that the original owners intended. The hotel is now with the original owners and it makes so much sense.
It makes from our point of view too!
